THE 9/11 LETTER

THIS IS THE LETTER I SENT TO OUR LOCAL POLICE DEPT, THEY WERE NOT PLEASED AND SET ME UP WITH DEW SCENARIO TO DO MUCH DAMAGE.  I WILL RELATE THE EPISODE IN ANOTHER BLOG, TITLED THE POLICE SCENARIO

                                                                         *********************
I think it was last year the peabody police asked the mayor for a paid holiday on 9/11. It was suggested that it become an unpaid holiday ,that was ignored, it generated a lot of talk around town. I believe it was dropped and later the mayor, Peter Bonfanti, did approve it, he snuck it through. Two weeks ago on the local talk show” You make the Call “ on our local cable channel 10, I made several statements about the Peabody Police and their paid 9/11 holiday. The point of that soliloquy was that the mayor does not listen to “We the People.” Not really wether the police should or not have a paid holiday, but since I brought it up. I thought I would expand on those thoughts here, to explain myself fully.

Now this reminds me of congress, the first time congress really caught my attention was when they gave themselves a raise during a financial crises. At least that is  what we were told, the public was in a financial crisis. I think it was in the 70’s  gas lines and all. So here these guys in congress were giving themselves a pay raise, I did not know at the time it was a cost of living raise, it was just stated in the paper it was a raise, That pissed me off so much. How could congress give themselves a raise during a financial crises?   When we were told we had to pull in our belt, sacrifice our all, and give our financial all. Was it really a financial crises or something gov’t wanted to do for fun?  I was outraged and never lost that bad taste in my mouth even though I found out later it was a cost of living raise. They give up not one dime. Here the same bad taste,,, many were facing foreclosure and these guys snuck through a raise.. It was a raise after all wasn't it?

Anyway, at the time of the police raise we have been told over and over the financial economic state of the union is in dire condition, we are one breath away from going bottom up, or are we?   How could the police ask for a paid holiday, and not only that, request a  paid holiday, signed and sealed by the mayor when we are so broke.  I thought, ok, does the police and the mayor know something about this financial crises that I don’t.. Is it really a crises or something not in reality, why would the police ask for this raise at this time knowing that people in their community were severely strapped and some were losing their homes.  The police,, by this holiday seemed to want to add to this burden. Either they were not conscious of their neighbors stress, didn’t give a shit about their neighbors stress, or were completely greedy or selfish. Take your pick. I have not figured that out yet. Bonfanti has raised taxes every year without fail. This added to our burden. A good chunk of change. So what gives? How do you feel? The public, I would like to know. Email me at memoir65@yahoo.com or reply in this paper.

Do I believe that the police deserve 9/11 as a paid holiday.  No, I don’t, not at this time, I was a reserve police officer in San Diego Ca. I worked as a regular police officer, it was practice for what I wanted my occupation to really be when I got out of the Navy. It was a good way to find out what the job entailed and what I could do.  I respect the police for the great multi-taskers they are, fast and all at once. Talent. I also had mike fright, from the first moment I ever spoke in a mike. It was a constant struggle.  The dispatchers knew me, or at least some did. I sucked. But I did the job. I was a good cop, and decided directing traffic and other benign things were better for me, so thats what I did. I know what police work entails and just how dangerous it is and why I loved it. It was my choice, just as it is their choice,  I have an inside perspective.

I appreciate cops but I don’t’ like to hear this rhetoric that they lay their lives on the line for me. I have for some reason can’t except that without this, They make a good salary, good benefits, good pension and if that was not there they certainly would not do the job. People are in line for the job. So death and its possibility is not a great deterrent and I feel that to use that as a reason for their status in the community is wrong. How many of us have heard the words, “They put their lives on the line for us every day?” that is their choice, As I said no salary , no job.

Now to talk about 9/11, it is simple, many many people lost their lives in 9/11. No one is offering many of them a paid holiday and many lost immediate relatives. The police is an institutional relationship, not that close as blood. During this time of financial strain it would be more appropriate for the police to ask at another time. When the economy  is not referred to as  going bottom up. We don’t mind your holiday pay, but not at this time, not when people,,because of the poor economy are losing their homes.

That is all I meant. I meant nothing more or less than what is written here and if you feel you disagree, email me, write a rebuttal in this paper. Do both. I look forward to ideas within the Peabody community and please try to be civil, so we can communicate. I know some of you would like to swear, I like to swear also but not here.

                                                                       **************************
I don't  think this letter was published by the paper, I did not see it but somehow the police got ahold of it..This is what they did to me.. I was programmed to walk the dog and I did, instead of following my usual route, I was told to walk down this other street  as I turned into the street a car was parked in the middle and a woman was speaking to the man inside, I glanced at them and they were both looking at me  .I was thrown through the air and fell on my right side with my arm fully extended. As I landed I heard something in the arm rip..Strange as it may see it was the front of the biceps that ripped not the extended back.. I stood up and a nurse rushed out of her house, and as I stood up I was pulsed and almost passed out, she got me a chair. Cody, the dog was with me and jumping on the woman, I told him to sit and he did. They called the cops and the EMT's came and the fire dept...The EMT's asked if I hit my head, I said no and I had refused to have them called. They were calle anyway. I was ignored. The EMT's in this town are used as intimidation factors, especially if I piss the cops off, etc.. They usually follow me all over town where ever I go, what a waste of taxpayer money.
